Putting is probably the most important part of golf. It takes up close to half of all your shots, so improving your putting can make a real difference. Choosing the right putter is a big part of improving your putting game, you need one that will suit your style and game.

Whilst there are less variables with regards material used, simply because of the fact you are swinging slower and with less force than you do on the other golf clubs, there are plenty of other factors that you should be considering when you are choosing what putter to buy.

There are a number of different lengths, which are traditionally put into 3 main categories.

Standard. Standard length putters should be used where you can, it's only if you have issues with this length you should consider other lengths.
Belly putters. The shaft reaches to the belly, using it to stabilize the putter.
Long putter. Generally used by those golfers with back problems, it reaches up to the chin and is gripped in a similar way to that with which you would grip a broom.

There are other factors to consider when choosing a putter. Do you want it heel shafted or center shafted, both change the 'feel' of the put. Would you rather a blade or a mallet head?

It is important that you consider which putting style is best suited to you, and what sort of 'feel' you want from your putter. Putting is the most important part of golf, make sure you understand which putter is best for you.
